How Do I Close or Delete My DartNode Account?

If you're done with DartNode, you can close your account. Closing it isn't a dashboard button. It takes two steps: cancel your services yourself, then ask us to close the account. This page explains both steps and what we do and don't keep afterward.

Step 1: Cancel every service

Closing your account doesn't cancel services automatically, and active services keep generating invoices. Cancel each one from its page in the dashboard first. Canceling permanently destroys the server's data, so back up anything you need before you start. The options and what happens to your data are covered in Canceling a Service.

If you want to close the account right away, choose Cancel Immediately rather than end of cycle.

Step 2: Settle any open invoices

We can't close an account with unpaid invoices. If an invoice was generated for a service you've since canceled, open a ticket to Accounting and ask us to review it rather than leaving it unpaid.

Step 3: Request account closure

Open a ticket to Accounting from the account you want closed and ask for it to be closed. Requests must come from the account itself. We don't close accounts based on an email from an address that isn't on file.

What happens to your data

DataWhat happens
Server disks, snapshots, and filesPermanently destroyed when each service is canceled. Staff can't recover them.
Network logs for your servicesDestroyed when the service is canceled.
Account, billing, and access records (name, invoices, payments, login history)Retained after closure. We're required to keep financial and account records for tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, and legal purposes, so these can't be erased on request.
Remaining account creditForfeited. Credit can't be paid out, so use it on final renewals before you close. See Refunds and Account Credit.

Changed your mind later?

You can sign up again at any time. Canceled services and their data can't be restored, though, so you'll start with new servers and new IP addresses.

Just want fewer emails?

If the goal is to stop notifications rather than leave, you don't need to close the account. An account with no active services doesn't generate invoices.
